SUNDAY DIM SUM

LUKYU, originally uploaded by dougievision.

Sunday Dim Sum is a tradition for Chinese people. When I was a kid growing up we went to this place every Sunday. My pops, my grandpa also frequent this tea house. There was an assassination there in the last couple of years but over all it's steeped in history since the early 1900s.

CONGRATULATIONS

THE WORST

WORSTRECEPTIONEVER, originally uploaded by dougievision.

Man, I had the worst experience going at the door for this party. It's the worst when the door don't have their sh*t together. F*ck those bitches in black too. Too rude.

OBAMA

Just finished watching the DNC. I'm feeling happy for Obama and American people. They got a chance to make things right. Obama!

JAZZY

I found these two CDs in the bargain bin today:

Miles Davis / Sketches of Spain
The Best of Guru / JazzMatazz

I'm forming a habit of listening to music in the morning so looking forward to hearing these 2moro.

SURFING

HEADLIGHT, originally uploaded by dougievision.

Joke: What do you get when you cross Alive Boys and 24Herbs Boys? A security team!!! haha (i saw the gentlemen all today). About the blog title; we all have dreams, ambitions, goals, but, if the waves aren't there things are put on halt. Maybe you get real big waves and ride them as long as you can. The point is keep surfing. Nature comes and you got to find a way to deal with it. You wipe-out, you succeed, etc., etc., you get the point. Even though I don't surf (or do sports for that matter) I think surfing is a good analogy of life.

It's looks old to...let's see...Yup, "The Penguin Rhyming Dictionary" by Rosalind Fergusson, first published in 1985. It's got good stuff like, "508 -aze. Mars, parse, vase, Abkhaz (Russian people), Shiraz (Iranian city), Ahwaz (Iranian town), memoirs, handlebars, churidars (Indian long trousers). I got one to add..Arze. :)

CAMERAS

LIGHTS5, originally uploaded by dougievision.

Fooled around with lights tonight. Also, went to Mong Kok to look at camcorders, pro and consumer models. The choice was expensive and really expensive. Anyways, I think Canon or Panasonic. Just because I think the lens are the best. Sony? Still gotta do more research. Any advise?

CHARSUI

CHARSUI, originally uploaded by dougievision.

After a meeting we had in the morning, Dor Yuk introduced us to an amazing Char Sui joint in Wan Chai. I pass this place all the time but never ventured inside. When Dor Yuk says a place is the bomb, we listen for sure. Yes, it was amazing.

2MORO IS A NEW DAY

GS, originally uploaded by dougievision.

Can't pass a level in a video game. Gonna go to sleep (so early!). Let's see what 2moro brings.

JAY-Z SONGOGRAPHY

If you're a Jay-Z fan, check out this issue of XVibe. It's got 'A Complete Songography' of Jay-Z...damn no wonder this dude is special. Hard work pays off.

KIDSTUFF

HKUSTGROUP, originally uploaded by dougievision.

Today I went to HKUST to share rap music with a group from in their freshman year. I brought some music to share with them. I asked what type of music they all listen to and here was the result:

#1. Love Songs
#2. Classical
#3. Rock
#4. Canto
#5. Hip Hop/Rap

Since we were #5, I shared some old skool and some of my favorite rappers; Big L, Nas, Public Enemy...they digged it alot. I even played The Egyptian Lover's "Egypt, Egypt" and got a good response. Then, they all took turns writing a few bars to some beats and presto...people have a new appreciation for the music! So, good day sharing hip hop with the Science and Technology kids. Oh, kids be liking 24Herbs too! Word.

FACELESS BEAUTY

FACELESSBEAUTY, originally uploaded by dougievision.

Walking around yesterday, the typhoon left the most damage to scaffolding, ad posters and banners. There's something about a huge picture of a model with her face missing.

JIMMY PAGE

I gotta whole lot of love for Jimmy Page rippin' it up on guitar at the Olympics. He's lookin' like a Grandpa but still dope. Nice.

LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO...

SHADOWALL, originally uploaded by dougievision.

While watching 'A Broke Down Melody', one of the dudes by the campfire said something like, "life is too short to have sh*tty friends." I totally agree and got me thinking about my "life is too short to... list". If I can ignore the fact that time is relative here's a couple of mine:

Life is too short to...

be someone you're not
give up
be fighting
not to love
live in the dark
be blogging all the time!
be computerized

You guys got any? Sorry, mine not very inspirational. His quote was better.

TYPHOON NURI

The typhoon 9 signal was just hoisted. Nothing much to do except track this cyclone and watch the Olypmics. It's about 40Km away from HK moving at 14Km/Hr. Be here soon. Check out:

LOOK AROUND

STAR FERRY, originally uploaded by dougievision.

Yup, in our fast pace city, take the time to look around and above.

THE RUB

This morning, I was looking through my facebook wall and I couldn't believe I missed this post. My friend sent me this link a couple of weeks ago, about all the boom-bap rap you can clap too. If you dig the earlier rap music, I'm sure you can appreciate. Thanks Jason for the heads up!

STAYING INDOORS

RED SONJA, originally uploaded by dougievision.

For people that have day jobs, typhoon 9 or 10 is a welcome because it means a day off. But, for people without a day job, we are stuck indoors. Damn! It comes in tonight and hopefully gone by 2moro afternoon. I went out looking for movies today, but no luck. Got any movies to recommend? I picked up a movie MC "Sober" recommended "Idiocracy" with Luke Wilson. Directed by Mike Judge (Beavis and Butthead, King of the Hill) and screenplay includes Ethan Cohen. I dig these types of movies, so should be a laugh.

BEIJING OLYMPICS

So far I love watching the show! I'm proud and pretty amazed that China pulled off an amazing opening and everything is going well. My favorites so far have been the 'shooting', 'archery', diving, women's volleyball, ping pong, gymnastics...ok, so you figured out I dig it all! I'm gonna start practicing Air Guns for my entry in the 2012 @ London. My dream is to join the Hong Kong team and participate.

TESTING

TRAFFIC copy, originally uploaded by dougievision.

Forgive me for the weird formatting on the blog. Just doing some tests. I'm importing my flickr pics, to my blogger and then that goes to AnD. The photos come out much sharper, although I can only do one at a time now. Anyways, hope this new system will be better for you readers. Peace

RED SKIES

REDSKY2 copy, originally uploaded by dougievision.

Last night the sky was crazy! Love it though. Today, just at home, taking care of my tattoo and trying to make some music. I've made a really dark track, I love alot but can put someone to sleep it's so slow. It's like 70bpm. That slows a person's heartbeat right down. I like exploring this tempo...almost gets mediative (not medicated).

BABY SNAKES, HELLBOY 2

Went to see Hellboy 2. I liked it alot. I'm a big Hellboy fan so, the movie was cool. The end wasn't as big as the first movie for me, but still enjoyable. Except for the head sitting in front of me!! The I picked up a DVD, Frank Zappa's "Baby Snakes". Made in 1979, pretty dope. There's lots of motion & clay graphics and Zappa humor and style. The other night I got "Sonic Youth" Music Videos. Really creative for just using Beta or VHS. In Hong Kong, we got to dig to get stuff for our eyes--everything is mainstream or else everything kinda sucks big time. Life here is what you make it, sometimes feel like working at a video store with film fanatics is the best job in the world. I'll still keep on diggin' for deeper stuff. I also picked up "A Broke Down Melody" a surf movie, I'll check it out 2moro. Right, also, I'll post some picks on Flickr 2moro. Tonight the sky was red and by Friday peeps be saying it will be Typhoon #10.

FIRST POST ON BLOGSPOT

Man, I just wanna rant. On my other blogs there are too many random people showing their 'significance'. Not really feeling it. I also like being 'significant' but always talking about yourself and being your own cheerleader is crap. So, my first post here. Cheers
